Mark Ledden, Ph.D.

  Since leaving university teaching for management consulting fifteen years ago, Mark has served global professional services firms, Fortune 100 executives, and entrepreneurial management teams as a communications counselor and coach. His areas of special expertise include designing and executing culture change programs, building executive presence and leadership communications, and helping technical experts construct logical, compelling reports and recommendations.

Before helping to found Kenning Associates in 2003, Mark spent 6 years with McKinsey & Company as a communication specialist. His Kenning clients include McKinsey, Katzenbach Partners Limited, J.P Morgan, AllianceBernstein, SunTrust, Pfizer, Amgen, Abbott Laboratories, Starbucks Coffee Company, FedEx, Honeywell, Sun Micro Systems and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Mark holds a B.A. in English Literature from Earlham College, a M.Phil in British Literature from Oxford University, and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Emory University. He is also qualified to administer and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.

Thom Shaw

  Thom brings more than 20 years’ experience in communications,  management consulting, and adult learning to his work. He specializes in  issues of organizational change, executive communications, and  capability building.  Before founding Kenning Communications, Thom served a variety of  Fortune 500 companies, environmental and public policy non-profits, and  public-sector institutions as a communications expert with McKinsey  & Co. His experience includes assisting executives with the  development and delivery of critical communications, developing targeted  communications strategies, aligning employee communications with  organizational values, designing and delivering core communications  skill training to client employees and McKinsey consultants, and  coaching senior managers to maximize their personal impact and  effectiveness during corporate restructuring.  Thom served as editor-in-chief for a series of reports by McKinsey on  climate change, including Reducing U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions: How  Much at What Cost? (2007), Hawaii’s Opportunity to Lead the U.S. in  Reducing Oil Imports and Greenhouse Gas Emissions (2008), and Unlocking  Energy Efficiency in the U.S. Economy (2009).

Before joining McKinsey, Thom worked for Time Warner, Inc. as a staff  writer at Asiaweek, a news magazine published in Hong Kong. He holds  B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from Yale University and The University  of Chicago respectively, and an M.F.A. in Writing from Emerson College,  where he served as a graduate teaching scholar.
